Sixteen of today’s top food writers and chefs helped Divertimenti celebrate its 50th birthday as part of the Divertimenti & Daunt Books Culinary Salon. Held over five nights, the events drew standing room only crowds to Divertimenti Marylebone High Street. Guests included food writers such as Diana Henry, U.S. blogger Deb Perelman and food journalist and historian Bee Wilson as they talked passionately about what we’re eating, how we’re eating it and who is influencing the way we think about food today.

The Salon kicked off with a popular session looking at new voices in food writing. Deb Perelman, author of The Smitten Kitchen, joined in as part of her first UK book tour. James Ramsden, Supper Club owner and author of Do-Ahead Dinners was along with Rosie Lovell, Rosie’s Café owner and author of Supper with Rosie, and Ellie Grace, French & Grace co-owner and co-author of Kitchen & Co. The discussion was lively as they talked about the emergence of blogs and supper clubs and how they’re changing the face of food writing today.

Session Two saw some of the top names in food from Marylebone High Street as they traced the rise of Marylebone Village as one of London’s food hotspots. Patricia Michelson of La Fromagerie, Chantal Cody of Rococo Chocolates, Fran Ward – author of the Ginger Pig cookbooks, and Camilla Schneideman – founder of the Divertimenti Cookery School at Marylebone High Street – were all on hand.

World food was the subject during the third night with top London chefs Atul Kocchar, Maria Elia, Florence Knight, Martin Morales and food writer Diana Henry as they discussed how London has become a world capital for food.

During the second week, Bee Wilson – author of Consider the Fork – talked about the history of cooking utensils and kitchenware with writer and broadcaster Tim Hayward while the final session explored the changing world of restaurants with Joe Warwick and Nick Lander.

Plans are afoot for a 2014 series. In the meantime, you can catch videos with all the authors right here.
